 Job Summary 

To provide ongoing monitoring, support and behavioral health support services to adults with severe psychiatric illnesses, children and youth with emotional trauma, mental and behavioral difficulties, as well as to serve their families. The Qualified Mental Health Professional will engage the adults, children and family in weekly skills training and case management (routine and intensive) service. 

The Qualified Mental Health Professional will follow a strengths-based model to develop and build skills that will help the children, youth and families function autonomously and successfully. The Qualified Mental Health Professional will work with the clinical team to develop a Recovery/Treatment Plan focused on the client and family’s needs. 

Responsibilities 

As the QMHP your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Responsible for providing skill building training in the home or out in the community: one-on-one skills sessions at home, at the office, or in the community relating to goals and objectives using evidence-based practices and curriculum.
  • Provides support and crisis/emergency services for the child/adult/family through face-to-face contact, phone contact or availability by an on-call system (all time spent on crisis assessment and planning, crisis linkage and follow-up, and stabilization must be documented as crisis hours)
  • Maintains all client documentation in the electronic record and write progress notes that are adhering to requirement set by the Texas Administrative Code.
  • Utilize effective listening skills to establish rapport with client, family members and other individuals close to the client; provide emotional support and encouragement and engage family members in the service process.
  • Maintains records in accordance with regulatory/agency standards. Enters data in a clear, accurate, and timely manner. Also, promptly submits documentation needed for the tracking of output/outcome measures. May be asked to assist in record review or qualitative review processes.
  • Responsible for keeping the family and team members informed on progress toward achieving Service Plan goals
  • Provide assistance to clients with daily living tasks such as behavior management, counseling services to the client, budget management, independent transportation assistance, time management skills and other tasks to promote independent living.
  • Collaborates with court/probation, tribal/community agencies, families and other natural support systems to ensure client’s needs are met. Develops a strong working relationship with community partners.
  • Assist clients in practicing effective communication, problem-solving and anger management techniques in their daily lives.
  • Participate in staff meetings, monthly training, company programs, professional development training as required.

Supervisor: Clinical Director/Clinical Supervisor 

Supervises: N/A 

Caseload: Estimated 12 to 15 clients 

Work Environment: Primarily community based position with a portion of office-based activities 

Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week Work hours are set by the clients’ needs, with allowances in scheduling to be available to meet with children, youth and families as well as other team members during times and dates convenient for all parties involved (i.e. evenings and weekends). 

Minimum Qualifications: QMHP-CS must be:

(A) has a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum number of hours that is equivalent to a major (as determined by the LMHA or MCO in accordance with §412.316(d) of this title (relating to Competency and Credentialing)) in psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physician assistant, gerontology, special education, educational psychology, early childhood education, or early childhood intervention; or

(B) is a registered nurse; or

(C) At least 2 years of experience providing therapeutic services for children/adolescents with behavioral challenges on an intensive level
